I needed new bedroom lamps and decided to give a go with transforming one of the brass lamps that I found at a thrift store for $6.00. The shade and the shape of the lamp is nice but I hated the brass color. I decided to try making it look like mercury glass even though it is not a glass lamp, using some of the ideas on Pinterest. I am quite happy with the outcome. It may not look exactly like mercury glass but it does give the lamp a aged patina which I love.
Directions:
- Clean the lamp with a damp soft cloth. Let dry.
- Spray a mixture of 50% water and 50% vinegar lightly on the entire lamp
base. - While the mixture is still wet, spray in short spurts with the Valspar Metallic paint until thoroughly coated.
- Let dry overnight.
- Buff with a soft cloth, rubbing the bubbles until smooth.
